As I’ve not posted for ten days I thought it about time I make an effort, difficult though it is in this temperate climate and with so many better things to occupy my time with. It’s not the heat that gets you but the humidity. I’m not complaining mind you as it does have its compensations. Like swimming in the Mediterranean with it’s almost bath water temperature. Pure heaven!
Last Thursday I attended the G.A.U. (Girne American University. Yes, the American University of Girne!) Dance Festival held at the Amphitheatre every year. I was mesmerised by the quality and diversity of the dance troupe, students every one of them. All types of music were danced to and in one instance out came four ballerinas dressed in black performing to a popular classical piece, then all of a sudden the music changed to electronic dance music! Galip Emre who is Turkish Dance Federation Board Member and Creator of Functional Dance Theory was responsible for most of the evening cheography. The evening ended in the ‘pillow fight,’ a really ingenious way to bring the night’s entertainment to a close. Well almost to a close as the rapturous applause went on for a lot longer. Oh and I forgot to tell you about the best of it. It was totally free.
Last night I attended the Black Olive open night again, my third in a row and for the third time the evening didn’t disappoint. As the venue is receiving much attention on one of the local forums the audience and musician attendance is growing by the week. The poor ‘old’ land lady was rushed off her feet and moving around at supersonic speed, like she had a rocket stuffed up her bottom (I was going to write arse but that would be rude!)
I'm just back from my daily swim and well knackered after spending over an hour in the water. I watched as the sun turned almost blood red as it headed for the horizon. I came out looking like a crinkle cut chip. After a quick shower I sat down to a supper of fried octopus, chips and a Cyprus salad. It’s a hard life but someone has to live it and right now that’s me.
