A fun day out

Camera and lenses packed in my back-pack; I took a bike ride to Girne to capture some images of the Freedom Day celebrations. Unfortunately I was too late for the military display, which I'm told is impressive enough on its own.
It was a really fun day out and definitely a day for a family outing, as was obvious from the turn-out. The air display by the Turkish Air Force was impressive and went on for half an hour, unlike their British counter-parts who piss off for a pint after ten minutes! Unfortunately by the time it came round to the display I was knackered and soaking wet from the intense humidity and heat. I therefore retreated to the shade of the old harbour and enjoyed a cool glass of larger. The old harbour has an array of rather large buildings (As can be seen) around it in a horse shoe formation, so I only had a split-second to snap the speeding projectiles, in-between sipping my beer.
After the display was over, contently sitting there enjoying my second glass people watching, I couldn't help noticing the happy smiling faces of the families as they wound their way home. The latter is endemic here in North Cyprus and not just on such occasions but everywhere one cares to look. Definitely becoming my kind of place J

Here are the projectiles, f5's so I've been informed by Mert (To whom I'm grateful for the correction) and not F16's as I'd perviously stated.

Note the striking Eagle decals

This little puddy cat didn't enjoy the shriek of the jets as they shot past

Just the one Turkish cruiser on show
The crowds winding their way home

This is truly a beautiful country and as I settle in and get more time to explore, there will be many more images that I hope will wet ones appetite
